The other chart
Ink jet printing on archival paper. 24” x 20”.
Alphabet charts are used in every school as a teaching aid. They are probably available in every language as well. These charts don’t change and tend to maintain status quo for very long time. The same A for apple B for ball, which must have started very long ago, are still going strong. The same observation holds good for Kannada alphabet charts as well. For this show I wanted to create an alternative chart that would have a different set of word/image association. I also wanted to imagine an alphabet chart for artists, in which I wanted to indicate a large area of artists’ expectations, experiences, frustrations and triumphs. With each alphabet there are two associations - one that can easily be captured in images and the other pertains to abstract ideas.
